Good and Bad Experience On Board

Good and Bad Experience On Board

Ship board training, one year of time of my life I have to be onboard a ship and
sailing and become a cadet onboard. For me it was a good and bad experience for me to be onboard
a ship. In fact it wasn’t just a ship, it was 8 ships altogether! At first I wasn’t’ bother of about
how many ship’s I have been onboard. But when ever I entered back in ALAM on the 2 nd July
2017, I compared my discharge book with my friends who sailed on main fleet, they only
went into 2 ships averagely as I am an offshore sponsored student, BUMI ARMADA BERHAD.

Throughout my ship board training there was a pros and cons inside it. As it going to
be my future life career, obviously it going to be a pros dominant experience. During the
first time I went onboard, I was so excited as it was my truly first time experience to be
aboard ship and not for leisure time but leaning and indirectly working! Well people always
said that the first time is always the best experience you will get in life. My first ship was
Armada Tuah 100, a Anchor handling Towing Tug Supply. For me, I am very fortunate to be
onboard of that vessel. Cause the ship is one of the best ship my sponsored company or
even my future employee, Bumi Armada. It is because the ship’s paperwork, hygiene and
discipline in operation is well maintained.

During my training on the ship, the person in command was Captain Suryamin.
Captain is one of my favorite captain even thought he was a strict captain. He is also could
consider as my mentor. The reason why he is my favorite captain is because he is one of the
most religious captain I ever met. He will always remind his cadets to pray and always give
motivation towards his cadets. Even thought he had a heart of the lion with his scolding and
giving strict orders all the time, at the same time he had a caring heart. Which really shows
he is a caring captain is because, he really concerns regarding his cadet’s training progress,

plus I always get scold by him but fortunately I had many of my cadet mates, with me at that
time.

We were 7 altogether. It was Ashraf, Azmin, Avinash, Hanif, Jagpreet and Kelvin. 4 of
us was deck cadet and another 3 was engine cadet. We were like brothers and very close at
that time. Sometime the advantages of having a bad or pressure time I might say, is you’ll
will closer with your friend. The friendship will automatically there! Plus, before this the
engine cadets, Hanif, Jagpreet and Kelvin, I rarely talk to them but I know what their names
are and sponsored by the same company. Even deck cadet Ashraf instead I wasn’t that close
before we sailed on the same ship. The ‘Sillatur-Rahim’ is there in that ship.

Furthermore, in terms of operation, what I learnt is everything you handle on the
ship is always relate to money, money and money. The reason is because, almost everything
you do is money, the berthing fees, docking fees, and all the other stuff really costly! In that
case, for this career, we really required to professional personnel to roll the business.

But one the other side, even though everything that relate to ship is at high cost,
nothing is very important to do a job safely. Even thought money is everything but nothing
will beat the cost of life and life it self is the most expensive thing that we have to be
compare with money. Therefore, a safety minded person is also required in this type of of
industry. Trough out my ship board training, ‘Alhamdulillah’ I haven’t experience or
witnesses a seriously accident on board ship.

Summarily, I really looking forward for this career. Last but not least, the thing that I
really miss the most about sailing is the view! The view was really wonderful and very

peacefully, ‘Subhanallah’.
