Good and Bad Experience On Board.
Good and Bad Experience On Board
Hi everyone, my name is Ameer Meerza Bin Zulkiflee and I am going to tell you a bit of my good and bad experiences while I was on board ship during my 1 year internship. Let me start off with my bad experience on board as what most people say "save the best for last". Truth be told, there are lots of bad memories experienced on board especially when you are just a cadet on board, which is basically the lowest rank on board a ship. However, what I am about to tell you is the most messed up experience I've ever had on board ship or at least, my life.
So, firstly, one of the bad experiences I've had was signing off during a heavy rainstorm TWICE! What annoyed me so much was because the ones that are supposed to sign off was my friends and I. But because of some crews including the officers wanted to go to shore as well, we had to wait for them which causes the service boat to delay from picking us up in the morning to picking up in the evening. So guess what happened. In the evening the tides started to rise and the waves started to act violently. Ironically both of the times i signed off are exactly similar to the scenario i just told you. Moving on, as the service boat came to pick us up including the crews i mentioned just now, we had to rush on the service boat so as not to get caught up in the storm. So, all of my bags were handled so roughly that most of my stuffs inside the bag were damaged, including my laptop. And not just my things were damaged but it was extremely dangerous that if we weren't cautious, we could simply slip from the service boat and go overboard. I slipped a few times on board the service but luckily enough i didn't go overboard but I still hurt both of knees badly. By the time, we reached land, the crews didn't even say sorry or goodbye. Instead they went straight away to other places. Imagine experiencing this twice! From what happened, I started to realize some people who were really kind to me weren't as kind after all. Real eyes realize real lies.
Enough with the bad experience, after a bad day must come a bright light after. On to my good experience, there are also many good experiences I had on board. But for the purpose of sharing it to you, I am going to tell you the best experience I've had on board. The best experience I had on board was that i was able to be a part of the so called Anchor Handling operation. Well, most of you may not be familiarized with this type of operation as you may be in the foreign going fleet. I am sponsored by an offshore company so our operations are a little different from the large foreign going vessels. So, during the operation, i have managed to learn a lot about the offshore enterprise cause this operation are one of the most major operations to be conducted by an off shore vessel. Not all of my batch mates that are sponsored by the same company as I am has experienced Anchor Handling. That is why I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this operation. Also, during the time of operation, my captain has taught me a lot in maneuvering and steering a ship. At that time also I completed my steering license. It is required to complete my steering license during the internship.
Well, that is all from my good and bad experience on board ship. I hope you wouldn't go through the bad experience I had and I hope that you would also able to participate in an Anchor Handling Operation in the future.
