SS PUTERI DELIMA SATU 'FORECASTLE'

It all started on 17^th May 2016 when I joined my 1^st ship SS PUTERI DE LIMA SATU as a deck cadet. PUTERI DELIMA SATU is a Liquefied Natural Gas Carrier which is 276 meters in length and weighs around 75,929 tons. At first I was very excited and a little bit nervous, excited because finally I will get to experience the reality of becoming a seafarer and nervous at the same time because it was my first time. So I signed on in Bintulu, Malaysia the first time saw the ship I was so amazed because I never expected that the ship would be that massive.

At first it was very hard because I’m not used to this kind of environment and when the ship started to sail you will not feel that it is moving because it is very massive and it cuts through the waves. Days passed and I learned so many things especially on the maintenance of the ship it was very tiring but I feel satisfied because I learned so many things after a week we arrived to our port of destination in Japan and during arrival I was on the bridge and I was shocked because from the bridge you can see almost everything outside the other ships and boats. I was so amazed the way the captain the officer and AB maneuver the ship to avoid other ships and obstructions there they taught me the things I need to learn to become officer and I’m very grateful because the way they treat me is like I’m part of a family. Months passed and every officers and crew are doing their best even if it was very busy to teach us and share their experiences that we need to learn to become a good officer. And every Sunday we will be having Sunday classed with chief mate, captain and officers they will teach us the things we need to learn on bridge for navigation as it is the primary duty of an officer and after that we will be have Sunday lunch it was like we are in a hotel we were served the nicest foods that our chief cook prepared for us. 16^th November 2016 my sign off day come and I was very happy because I will get to see my parents and my loved ones at home again and I will be able to spend my birthday with them.
